2. Information on the Project
Project Description:
The operation will introduce first time wastewater treatment services for the majority of the 560,000 inhabitants in Skopje’s metropolitan area through the construction of the new wastewater treatment plant (the “Project”). As such, the operation will significantly reduce the amount of untreated wastewater discharged into the Vardar River, which eventually flows to Greece as the Axios River, alleviating damage to the local and transboundary ecosystems. The Project will also increase Skopje’s resilience to climate change by strengthening the ability of the City’s wastewater treatment system to cope with extreme weather events.
